“You are what you eat” is more than a buzzy idiom. When you put good food into your body, your life is happier and healthier. For Mountain Bird, that means raising the standards of poultry farming so that the chicken you eat improves your life.
Our Birds
You can find our birds scratching for bugs, sunbathing in the early morning sun rays, and breathing the fresh mountain air. They live their days out on the grass and get to be who they are: chickens.
Our Mountain Birds are hand-reared in small batches, moved daily onto fresh pasture, and processed on-site by our skilled and careful crew. This peaceful lifestyle produces exceptional meat that will nourish and satisfy.
We steer clear of GMOs and never use hormones or antibiotics. Our fields never receive any synthetic fertilizers, and we refrain from using any chemicals or bleach in our butchering. We pay attention to the little details, because we feel they go a long way.
About Us
We are a family owned and run farm in Western Colorado. Coming up through the ranks of farm intern, to day laborer, to entrepreneur, Mountain Bird was breathed life in 2015, the same year we got married and started our journey of starting Gray Acres.
After several years of “earning our chops” by processing all the poultry in our valley for small farms, we made the jump to build a business that could feed our communities the quality poultry that was all but a memory for most. We teamed up with The Living Farm, our mentors and neighbors to build the facility, brooder, and pens necessary to scale Mountain Bird to what it is today. We continually refine our growing and processing practices to focus on quality.
